Meet JEM’s Pack Leader.
Hey there,
I’m Janell.
My passion for dog training can be traced back to age 17 living in Newry, Maine. I was introduced to Maine Guides, Kevin Slater and Polly Mahoney of Mahoosuc Guide service, and began my journey as their mentee. Throughout my apprenticeship at Mahoosuc, I acquired the skills to care for 50 sled dogs and mushing my own team – gaining an in-depth understanding of breeding, pack hierarchy as well as the fascinating history of northern dogs. Returning every winter to assist on guided mushing trips, I ultimately grew a deep bond with a retired sled dog named Millie and had the privilege of bringing her home to call my own.
After receiving my Bachelor’s in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences from University of Colorado Boulder in 2016, I’ve found Colorado to be the place I call home.
Currently living an active outdoor lifestyle in the Denver area, my dogs Nova (Chow Chow mix) and Axel (German Shepherd) are able to accompany me in nearly all of my activities. When we are not skiing, horseback riding, hiking, or training other members of JEM’s Pack, we are working diligently on our daily obedience training routine to achieve the right structure for our home pack. I am a member of the USCA and am working with Axel to receive a BH title, along with titles in bite and scent work.
I look forward to working with you to achieve a happier balance in your home as well as improve your dog’s overall quality of life!
